Overview

The Flying Spur Odyssean Edition is a limited edition, hybrid-only version of Bentley’s luxurious executive sedan, the Flying Spur. What makes it different is a range of unique finishes and features, inside and out. It is a showcase of sustainable materials and techniques inspired by the design of Bentley’s stunning centenary concept car, the EXP 100 GT, that give a hint as to how the Bentleys of the future will be crafted.

With a 2.9 litre V6 plug-in hybrid engine, the Flying Spur Odyssean Edition gives you a smooth yet powerful driving experience, with low emissions and the capacity to drive on electric power only, for access to cities with ultra-low emission zones.

Design

Among the first things you will notice on seeing this car is the unique accent colour that has been applied to the wheels and sections of the lower exterior bodywork. Named Pale Brodgar, it is a light, earthy colour rendered in a gloss finish, designed to make the car stand out from anything else you will see on the road.

The main exterior colour can be finished in a wide range of colours, including six that have been chosen by Bentley’s design team, to work especially well with the Pale Brodgar accents. As a result, every single car will be absolutely striking, from the unique 21” wheels to the ‘Hybrid’ badges on each ‘D’ pillar and the ‘Hybrid’ badge on the trunk lid.

As you step inside the car, you will no doubt notice the special Odyssean Edition treadplates, before taking a seat in a cabin that can be upholstered in your choice of five beautiful colour schemes. On the seats, Bentley’s breathtaking ombré stitching blends together three different thread colours resulting in a luxuriously warm combination of earth tones. On the headrests and the backs of the front seats, there are panels of a locally sourced wool tweed, which looks and feels sumptuous, while also providing a sustainable alternative to a full leather interior.

The dashboard and the waistrails on the insides of the doors are clad in Crown-cut Koa veneers. Their open-pore finish gives the cabin a modern, almost minimalist feel, while also being kinder to the environment, as it requires less lacquer. Sleek Piano Linen veneers on the centre console complete the picture.

Performance

Every Flying Spur Odyssean Edition is a plug-in hybrid car, with a turbocharged 2.9 litre V6 petrol engine accompanied by a powerful electric motor. Together, they can deliver 536 bhp (544 PS) and 750 Nm (553 lb.ft) of torque, which can take you from 0-60 mph in 4.1 seconds (0-100 km/h in 4.3 secs) and up to a top speed of 177 mph (285 km/h). Top speed in EV Drive mode is 87 mph (140 km/h).

With a full tank of petrol and a fully charged battery, the car can take you 497 miles (800 km) – an incredible range for a hybrid. It can also drive on purely electric power for up to 25 miles (40 km). Travelling without using the petrol engine has another benefit: a near-silent in-car experience. In fact, you can expect up to 50% lower noise at speeds of up to 50 mph in the electric-only EV Drive mode.

Technology

The car automatically starts in EV Drive mode, as long as there is sufficient charge in the battery to drive on electric power. Hold mode uses the petrol engine for propulsion, preserving any charge in the battery and topping it up when possible via regenerative braking. The third mode is Hybrid mode, which allows the car to select the most appropriate power source – petrol engine or electric motor – depending on the availability of electric power and your current location. When the car’s intelligent navigation system is operating in Predictive E-Mode, it will analyse your route and identify stretches of your journey on which you can drive on electric-only power, with the aim of keeping emissions to a minimum. It will then automatically switch between the two power sources, as appropriate.

To make long drives as comfortable as possible, the car includes Bentley’s Touring Specification, which gives you Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Assist, a head-up display and a night vision camera, among other useful features. And thanks to the inclusion of the Seat Comfort Specification, it includes ventilation, massage and winged comfort headrests for all four outboard seats, as well as adjustable cushion and backrest bolsters.

Android Auto* and Apple CarPlay** come as standard, as well as a Wi-Fi hotspot and SIM card for easy connection to the internet. You will also benefit from the My Bentley smartphone app, which lets you check your car’s lights, locks and fuel levels wherever you are. It can start charging, provided the car is plugged into a power source and it even lets you pre-heat or pre-cool the interior before you start your next journey.

Personalisation

You can choose from seven standard exterior colours, with over 60 different exterior finishes available to you in Bentley’s extended paint range. Across both standard and extended ranges, there are six colour recommendations from Bentley’s design team: Glacier White, Dark Sapphire and Onyx from the standard range and Moonbeam, Brodgar and Granite from the extended range. There is also the option to request a bespoke paint from Mulliner, Bentley’s personal commissioning division, which will be matched to any colour sample you can provide.

For the interior, you can choose from five secondary hide colours, to pair with the light, airy Linen colour of the primary hide and the rich Autumn accent colour.
